Without any specific targets in view, we decided to end our exploration at Ban Thi and proceed to our next destination. Located an hour's drive away is Pabanhong Non Hunting Area, where we encountered a large bird with a stunningly beautiful long tail - the Green Peafowl.
There are numerous locations in Thailand where one can observe Green Peafowls, ranging from Mae Wong National Park up to the northern regions. Nevertheless, Pabanhong Non Hunting Area offers the best opportunity for unobstructed views and close encounters with these magnificent birds.Even before reaching the entrance, we could hear the distinctive car honk-like calls of the Green Peafowls. Following the sound, we caught sight of a small brown flycatcher with a striking black-and-white tail, known as the Taiga Flycatcher.
We witnessed a male peafowl showcasing his impressive fan-like tail during his unique courtship ritual.
Maintaining such a long tail in pristine condition is no easy task.
The length of the tail exceeds that of their body.
We had a close-up view of the striking male peafowl.
Under sunlight and from different angles, the iridescent feathers display various colors and hues.
The female peafowls are equally beautiful despite lacking the long tail.
Male peafowl trying to attract the attention of the female bird with the great display.
As we were leaving the area at sunset, we spotted another Indochinese Roller, concluding our first day of exploration in Northern Thailand on a high note.
