Krung Ching Waterfall Birding After Lunch


After the simple yet satisfying instant noodle as lunch, we continue our birding around the Krung Ching Waterfall area. I first saw this Barred flying dragon glide above me and while looking at it, I found another surprise!
Rufous-collared kingfisher

Yellow-vented flowerpecker
 More flowerpecker for this trip, is the Yellow-vented flowerpecker that caught my attention.
White-rumped shama
 A rather common bird in this area - White-rumped shama.
Grey-headed canary-flycatcher
Not a common sighting but happy to see Grey-headed canary-flycatcher again as we don't get to see this bird in the garden.
Blue Winged Pitta
 Another unexpected visitor, a Blue Winged Pitta
Orange-bellied flowerpecker
 Another common bird in this area - Orange-bellied flowerpecker
Greater green leafbird
 Another not so common forest bird - Greater green leafbird
Scarlet-rumped trogon
 Forest bird after forest bird, another rare find - Scarlet-rumped trogon
Raffles's malkoha
Seen this Raffle's malkoha yesterday. This time with better lighting.
Black-and-yellow broadbill
Just as we are ready to call it a day, another cute bird came forward to say good bye to us. One of my favorite very beautiful bird - Black-and-yellow broadbill

Krung Ching Waterfall Birding

After the wet start to my trip, it was a great morning with sun shine on the very 1st bird for today. It is also my target bird - Green broadbill!

I have been trying to get a good look to this green beauty for a while without success. The appearance of this bird right infront of me in the morning really make my day!
Asian Fairy Bluebird
A female Asian Fairy Bluebird quietly feeding on the fruits.
Blue eared barbet
As compare, this Blue eared barbet make known to all that she is coming to feed. Follow the call, I can easily pin-point her location.
Crimson Breasted Flowerpecker
2nd flowerpecker of the trip is this - Crimson Breasted Flowerpecker
Black Giant Squirrel
A Black Giant Squirrel joining the fun.
Chestnut Breasted Malkoha
 Excitement after excitement, next to appear is the Chestnut Breasted Malkoha.
Asian Paradise Flycatcher
I didn't expect to see this white morphed of Asian Paradise Flycatcher here!

Krung Ching Waterfall of South Thailand

This trip was made back in May and not suppose to meet with any wet weather. Upon reaching Krabi airport and while on the way to Krung Ching Waterfall, the sky started to pour heavily.
Luckily the rain stop when we arrived at the waterfall.
Well, I'm not here for the waterfall but for the birds. We start to looking for birds even though it was still drizzling.
Oriental magpie-robin
First was this juvenile  Oriental magpie-robin.
Orange-bellied Flowerpecker
Found a male Orange-bellied Flowerpecker on a fruiting Indian cherry tree.

There are more than one actually so as this female that not as brightly coloured as the male.
Black-winged Flycatcher-shrike
Pay attention to fruiting tree is always a good idea, a Black-winged Flycatcher-shrike also make an appearance.

Follow the knocking sound, saw this female Grey-and-buff Woodpecker.

Must be the good weather after the rain, saw another Blue-eared barbet.

My luck is too good, one excitement after another. Raffles's malkoha appear before the end of the bird wave.

One of my favorite in the broadbill family is this Black-and-yellow broadbill
Dusky broadbill
Follow the foot steps of Black and yellow broadbill is this pair of Dusky broadbill. Wow! With this pair of broadbill appear right in front of me, will I be able to meet with my dream bird which is also my target of this trip?

Haha... luck is with me. I finally get to see my long time target bird - Green broadbill
Not the best night for astro photography due to the rain cloud but I give it a try...
With this, I happily end my day 1 of birding at Krung Ching Waterfall.
