Week End Fever at Malacca
After the shooting the nice Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher at Lower Pierce on Saturday, I went over to Malacca for another cheap week end get away. However, my body protest on me....was having a fever for the entire trip! Being a person that can not sit still, despite the fever, I go out and explore as usual.
It was 6 am and a very beautiful morning indeed!
I 'bump' into a few groups from Singapore and this is one of the group that I met on top of the St Paul's Hill.
This shot freshen up my day!... so Spring!
The building at the background was about few km away. If this canon is still active, can the canon ball reach the building?
Oh got a big and fat worm!
Wild flowers
My favourites White-bellied Sea Eagle... she flew pass me and give me a good opportunity to take another good shot of her.
The crows are still as irritating! Keep harassing the sea eagle.
I don't know why, this grasshopper seems to have a very bright florescent green lime colour.

Urban Nature Tour at Historical Town of Malacca
Thanks to Channel 8's TV drama 小娘惹 the story of Peranakan which were shot at Malacca. Malacca is now one of the favourite week-end trip for many fans to experience themselves the food, the place & the history of Peranakan.
If you have visited Malacca, you will never miss the beautiful flowers that were planted everywhere you go.
Well, the minutes I arrived at Malacca, I straight away go and check out the White Bellied Sea Eagle that I saw last year.
She has grown bigger now! That is good!
However, the nuisance by the house crow continues... Hopefully their next generation are doing well and have started another family some where.
Being a lazy photographer, I always leave my tripod at home... guess I'm not a bird photographer... ha ha
The next time I visit here, I must make sure I carry my tripod to get clearer shot. ha ha

Some of the flowers that I took and there are many more that you got to explore yourself to find out. Include the rare Hoya flowers.

Different kind of fruits...
and not forgetting cicak (house lizard).
Malacca have more to offer other than the rich history and cultural. Is a good place to enjoy nature without going to FOREST! You can easily finds butterfly, birds, dragonfly, flowers, etc that has became less common in Singapore.

White-bellied Eagle at Marina Bay
I was at Marina Bay area last week end and happens to see the white-bellied sea eagle flying with fish firmly gripped in its talons. The eagle circle on top of the Marina Bay area while I was walking towards the Merlion Park from the Esplanade.
Looks like a tilapia fish
The fish is still alive and see the mouth movement (open and close), however I'm not sure if it catches the fish from the river or the pond nearby.
The eagle continues to fly in circle at the Marina Bay area for about 4 times before it disappear from my sight.
The next time when you are at Marina Bay area, don't forget to look out for this sea eagle in actions.

Mobbing of White Bellied Sea Eagle - 乌合之众??
This is continuation of my earlier posting on the white bellied sea eagle.
The minutes after the male eagle flew off to hunt for food, the unwanted visitors pay the mama eagle a visit. For the safety of the chicks, the mama eagle tries to shoo them away. As the visitors getting more aggressive, the mama eagle response accordingly and started the high altitude chase.

The mama eagle notice something fishy, suspected that she might be tricked or fooled. She immediately returns to the nest and true enough there is another crow about to attack her chicks. This has been going on and on for about 30 minutes and the crows finally go away.
I’m sure this is not the first time that the sea eagle faces these challenge on bringing up their next generations. This won’t be the last either. Hopefully the chick can grow up safely despite the threats from the crows.
Did the crows really coordinate their attacks? Will the sea eagle able to defend the attacks from the crow? Looks like the Chinese phrase of 乌合之众 (groups of crows - referring to organization, groups that without proper planning, coordination, etc) got to re-written?

Read more about this strange behavior of birds mobbing at Bird Ecology Study Group.
This is the culprit that started the whole mobbing. Is really a big bird!
