First Visit to Wachirabenchathat Park

If you're heading to Bangkok, there's a good chance you'll find yourself wandering around the bustling Chatuchak Weekend Market. This vibrant market has it all—whether you're looking for fresh groceries, beautiful plants for your garden, adorable pets, or even unique pieces of furniture!

But if the hustle and bustle of the market isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry! Right nearby, you’ll find not one, but three lovely parks where you can relax while your friends enjoy their shopping spree.

One of these parks is Wachirabenchathat Park, affectionately known as Rot Fai Park. 

It’s a favorite spot for bird watchers, thanks to its incredible variety of wildlife. The park is a peaceful oasis that showcases the rich biodiversity of the area, making it a fantastic escape from the city's buzz. With sprawling greenery and serene walking paths, it's the perfect place to unwind and connect with nature.

Just a stone’s throw away, you’ll also find Queen Sirikit Park. This beautiful park is known for its stunning flower gardens and tranquil lakes. It’s a lovely spot for a leisurely stroll, and there are plenty of benches where you can sit back and enjoy the scenery. If you’re feeling a bit more active, you can take advantage of the walking and cycling paths that wind through the park.

Then there’s Chatuchak Park, which is another fantastic green space right next to the market. This park is great for families and offers a variety of recreational facilities, including playgrounds and picnic areas.

Whether you want to go for a jog, have a picnic with friends, or just relax under a shady tree, Chatuchak Park has something for everyone.

Since I have about two hours before my next appointment, I decided to pay a visit to Wachirabenchathat Park. It’s a great way to recharge, enjoy some fresh air, and appreciate the beauty of Bangkok’s green spaces. Who knows, you might just find your new favorite spot away from the market's lively atmosphere!

Park Connector at the North

Compare to other green areas, park connectors are less crowded especially on week end. One of the main reason perhaps is the perception that Park Connectors have nothing to see?

If you are coming from SLE and after turning to Woodlands Ave 12, Woodlands Park Connector is on the left.

See what I found on the tree? It may be hard to spot at first as they are all green in colour.

Thanks to the low traffic, the Rose-Ringed Parakeet (Psittacula krameri) actually was quite open! Once they start feeding, you just need to walk slowly towards them and you should be able to get quite near and observe them.

 They are feeding on the seeds of the Peacock flower!

The near completion of Yusof Ishak Mosque can be seen from this Woodlands Park Connector. The new Woodlands Hospital will also be built at the now empty area. The view is even nicer at night especially after the opening of this new mosque.

 I cross over Woodlands Ave 12 and continue my walk towards Ulu Sembawang Park Connector.

 Well is a parakeet day! Saw another different parakeet feeding - Long-Tailed Parakeet (Psittacula longicauda)

They are feeding on the fruits (their seeds to be exact) of Bintangor Bunut (Calophyllum soulattri)

The Dollarbird (Eurystomus orientalis) took the highest vantage point at a distance away looking for flying insects. Not a bad day out at the park connectors. Well, try to spot them if you happen to visit these 2 park connectors.

Coney Island Park, Singapore

After waiting for more than 2 years, Coney Island Park finally open to public! As with all newly opened facility, I expect some crowd so I choose to go early morning. 

The park open from 7am to 7pm. What a beautiful sun rise when I arrived at West Entrance of the park.

 I enter the park through West entrance.

This tiny island have 2 entrances. The West entrance is just next to Punggol Promenade Nature Walk while the East entrance is joined to Lorong Halus.

What can you do on this tiny island?

You may just enjoy the scenery, get into the forest. Scenery like this is something that consider uncommon in highly urbanized Singapore. They may look like pine trees but they are not. They are actually Casuarina trees also known as Rhu trees. This is probably how Tanjung Rhu got her name.

 If you are a bird watcher, this bird hide will come in handy.

 There are lots of signs of wildlife activities on the island.

 This heart shape nest probably built by Baya weaver birds.

Nature photographer of all sorts (be it insects, landscape or birds) flocked to Coney Island this morning.

 There are lots of cyclist too. Mountain bike is recommended due to the rough terrains.

Some just take out their phone and take wefie with their love bike. One pacik  try his fishing luck here too.

You may simply just explore this tiny island on foot. Highly recommended as you will get higher chance to see wildlife on the island by walking.

Some take the opportunity to groom their dog there too.

Pulau Ubin, another rustic island just opposite Coney island. It looks so close! Be forewarned, there are lots of sand flies on the beach. If you intend to walk on the beach, I will suggest that you wear long pants and long sleeve shirt.

Or you may just sit on the concrete path and enjoy the scenery and sea breeze instead.

Oh! There are shuttle service to Coney island from Pasir Ris and Punggol MRT!

Woodlands Waterfront

Another less known beautiful park of the north is Woodlands Waterfront. This is one of the few parks in Singapore that I like to visit. This place consists of a waterfront promenade & plenty of green area for all kind of activities. From simply fitness, brisk walking, to family outing/picnic, etc.

Beautiful sun set at the background of the park entrance.

This 400m long jetty, longest in Singapore made this place so unique compare to other parks.

This jetty provide unobstructed view to Straits of Johor. The sun was setting in between Singapore & Malaysia! The Causeway - first link between 2 countries is also visible and is at the back of this photo.

On the other side of the jetty, Senoko Power Plant is just at the opposite.

Looks like this is a nice place for fishing! Big barracuda with fishing line and feet still remain dry on land.

This must be one of the biggest catch of the day.

Another big catch!

Saw 2 speedsters across the straits speeding to the max with their high power machine.

A very unique place indeed, cater for all kinds of activities.

By the way, there is a restaurant selling Singapore's favorite food - chilie crab too!
