Love in Masai Mara

Since today is the eve of Valentine's Day. Let's celebrate it with all the loving couple that I met in Masai Mara.
Leopard
Leopard may be fierce but when they are with their couple, they are just as gentle as we are.
Grey crowned crane
The very loving couple of Grey crowned crane. They are known to pair for life.
Ostrich
This is the cutest couple that I came across in Masai Mara - The Ostrich.
Secretary Bird
This pair of Secretary Birds is in the middle of getting their nest ready on top of the tree crown.
Cheetah
Another couple from the cat family, fastest animal on land - the cheetah!
Zebra
Last but not least, the zebra couple.

What an experience I had in Masai Mara! Full life cycle for both prey & predators, individual roles in the pyramid food chain... Masai Mara have it all.

Coppersmith Barbet Courtship Feeding

Is the season of love again for birds in Singapore so as this pair of Coppersmith Barbet. Barbet looks the same both male & female and is not possible to differentiate them just by their appearance.
I'm not sure even with these series of photos, the male is the one on the right. I can only assume that the male will feed the female during courtship.
Can you tell the difference between this 2 barbet? Which one is male and which one is female?

Asian Koel Courtship

In Singapore, most of us are wakened by Koel call in the morning instead of a cock. Yet, most are unsure how the Koel looks like.

Asian Koel is brood parasite which means they lay egg in nest of other birds, they are known of laying egg(s) in house crow nest in Singapore.

Don’t you think this male Koel have a very similar appearance with the House Crow? There are slight differences if you look carefully, Koel eyes are red and their bill is greenish in colour.

The female Asian Koel can be easily identified by the spots all over the body.

Since Asian Koel don’t feed their chicks and the feeding happens only during their courtship. The male will collect the fruit and feed the female during courtship (so lovely).
