Laced Woodpecker

Most of the time, woodpecker are found pecking on tree branches high up the tree. I saw a pair of Laced woodpecker (Picus vittatus) foraging on the ground. On a closer look, is actually a female laced woodpecker escorting her just fledged chick. At times it will stop & feed the chick.

I was puzzled when I first saw this female Laced Woodpecker. Wonder why she was foraging on the ground.

After seeing this juvenile woodpecker, the other was protecting the just fledged chick.
