Brand New Year 2020 in SBG

Is been my tradition to walk in Singapore Botanical Garden on the first day of the year. 2020 is no exception and indeed it never fail to delight me. 

A national butterfly of Singapore - Common Rose to start my walk.

Ever since the garden improvement work, the usual spot for Common Kingfisher has shifted too. I no longer be able to spot this small beauty at Symphony Lake. Luckily I managed to spot her again in another pond.

A mixture flock of sub-adult of Asian Glossy Starling.

This Spotted dove just know how to pose for me to photograph her.

A usual and very common bird in the garden - White Breasted Water Hen.

Is good to see this "red velvet" - up close - Crimson Sunbird

One of the very easy bird to spot in the garden must be this bird with very bright yellow colour - Black naped oriole

This Lineated Barbet camouflage quite well among the foliage. It took me some time to pin point it's location by follow the the very unique call.

A curious Plantain squirrel check me out.

I have been hearing large flock of Asian Openbill Storks is in Singapore since Christmas eve. Is very rare to find Openbill over at this part of the world but is becoming yearly affair whenever drought happened in Thailand and forced them to fly thousands kilometer away to look for food. Still, this large number visit tiny Singapore is unprecedented. Due to other commitments, I have not have time to check it out yet. Well, good that they are still around!

Dairy Farm Nature Park

I was planning to visit Chinese Garden during the long year end holiday. I totally forgotten that Chinese Garden is closed for re-development! I end up make a detour to Dairy Farm.

One of the best time for field trip in Singapore is December. Nice and cool weather with sunlight and nice blue sky.

Anyone want some coffee? The expansive coffee luwak which was partially digested coffee cherries that was eaten and defecated by the Asian palm civet. It will look something like this originally before further process.

 I have no idea why this greater racket-tailed drongo act like a woodpecker.

 Although is quite far away, is not difficult to locate this Hill myna. Just need to follow their call which can be heard miles away.

Javan myna has taken over Common myna as one of the most common bird in Singapore ever since they are  brought to this part of the world.

 A juvenile Asian Glossy Starling is having big breakfast!

One of the 2 primate found in Singapore is this long tailed macaque. Hope to see the other primate in the wild soon.

Dusky Leaf Monkey of Bukit Tinggi

After visiting Thomson Nature Park, I remember I met some leaf monkey sometimes ago and have not blog anything about it. After going through my photo library, found some lovely pictures of Dusky leaf monkeys also known as Spectacled langur, or Spectacled leaf monkey (Trachypithecus obscurus)

My main purpose of this trip is birding and the appearance of these leaf monkeys just came as extra bonus.

This langur almost finish all the young leaf and looks like is trying to eat the new branch?

I can watch them the whole day! With the spectacle like eye ring, make it super cute.

Their tail is longer than the Long tail macaque!

Despite of their size larger than the long tail macaque that doesn't stop them from jumping from one tree to another.

They have such a good balancing skill, pluck leaf with one hand with another hand free without holding to any tree branches!
